Agree. SU7 Ultra isn't suitable for volume maker in domestic market. Chinese market isn't friendly toward performance oriented car.

Sales of the SU7 Ultra specifically and not the standard SU7 variants, because it is expensive (2x price of a YU7) and sacrifices comfort (stiff suspension, interior materials for the price) and range in favor of very high performance that the vast majority of Chinese consumers don't value. It still got 23k locked-in orders which is impressively high, but there is a reason why Xiaomi set a target of 10k/year. Buyers of the SU7 Ultra could've gotten a top trim Aito M9 with money left over for their family instead, especially when considering the statistic that it is the first high-priced car purchase for 70%+ of the buyers.

The market for it in China is tiny? Wuuuut?

I expect sales of it to drop next year since the market in China for it is tiny. Meanwhile, leading with a performance monster would build hype for the brand in Europe as they appreciate performance cars more, and there's a time limit before the performance gets surpassed by others. The only problem I forsee is that leading with the most expensive variant might cause people to write the entire line off as too expensive, and the comfort compromises might pose a problem if it's the first variant available to reviewers.
