Shame FAW never realize their potency of carving a market share from brand identity. The distinct dashboard design and the existence of physical buttons could be used for differentiating FAW with other car brands.

Range, charging speed and tech options and comfort functions are what matters. The Xiaomi has more to offer.

/// Had there been an Apple car, we would likely be saying somewhat similar things about the Apple car making companies like Hyundai, VW and Ford jealous in similar ways. ///

Have you seen the Apple car prototypes? "The Apple car’s circa-2020 design resembled the Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle" … horrible design! And Canoo has ceased operations and filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy … because it's horrible design. Apple is your God, not mine.

/// the YU7 has several more gimmicks which are far more meaningful. ///

Who care?

100% agree. I like these Xiaomi cars but I'm not a Xiaomi boy, I don't feel the power of Xiaomi brand and I don't know Lei Jun. I live in Europe and Xiaomi cars are the first beautiful cars produced in China.

Yet almost 100% of buyers put first an aspect that is completely free: aesthetics. And incredibly, right here where the Chinese could win over customers without the slightest effort, nothing happens: the aesthetics of Chinese cars are the most bland, outdated, and boring you can imagine, and the interiors are even worse. Is it possible that in all of China there isn't a single designer? Possibly. After all, Xiaomi cars were designed in Europe, in Germany, and this must mean something…

As such, its pure electric version cannot be equivalent to pure electric car designs. It suffers from a relatively short wheel base (when compared to its oveall size), it has large and high hood which is not efficient nor pretty.

Things will be better for BYD once they focus on pure electric cars.

The biggest problem of byd is that is focusing in quantity and not quality. Is trying to get the most market share as possible but there is a catch, the bigger you are , the harder it is to make improvements and changes , when you are a small team like many of the startups is easier to take care of the blockages around the road.

I will not be suprised if byd falls in the market share next year. The company is strong because of the hybrid technology, not the full ev market .

That's definitely true. I just think that having gimmicks that are not very useful ends up not really increasing sales by much compared to well made gimmicks. For FAW, I think they should pull from the fact that they're the only Chinese brand with more than 20 years of making unique full size cars and make their interiors match their traditional ICE cars with their intricate stitching patterns and some physical buttons, rather than their copy/paste of generic minimalist NEV tropes. They should also maintain their extremely distinct red stripe inside and for the exterior. Instead of directly competing with those already doing technominimalism well, try to attract those who haven't switched to NEVs yet. The Hongqi calligraphy logo and a minimalist interior like the E-QM5 clash really badly.
